Chapter Three
November 2, 2006

Woah, white much? The bright lights of the hospital were hurting Bliss's eyes. Actually, everything was hurting her eyes, why was that? Bliss reached up to shield her eyes from everything, right now light just seemed too much to handle. As the new pretty made an attempt to sit up, a long swift arm came across her chest, forcing her to lay back down. What was going on? Where was she? Wasn't she supposed to be off at some party? That was what her instincts told her to do. Wait. Parties. She wasn't an ugly anymore. This was totally bubbly, Bliss was a new pretty, and she was still stuck in a hospital bed. That aspect of the situation was maybe not so bubbly. Bliss turned her head to see the woman who had pushed her back down was Dr. Laiyte.
"I see you've waken up Bliss."
"Yeah, I totally have. Pretty is really bubbly, but why can't I open my eyes? It like, really hurts"
"Oh, yes. That is a common side effect of the operation. You see, you now have perfect crystal clear eye vision. You're not used to being able to see this well. After about five minutes it should go away. Anyways, you can't get up just yet, I need for you to rest up a bit, and then you can go out with your new friends and party away."
"Friends? I haven't even met anybody yet."
"Oh trust me, people tend to be very accepting no matter what your looks or personality after the operation. You'll never have to fight with anybody, and the whole world will want to be your friend. There are only improvements that come out of the operation, Bliss. I suppose you'd like to get up and look at yourself in the mirror, right?"
Bliss nodded her head and smiled at Dr. L, revealing pearl white sparkling teeth. Bliss slowly sat up and swung her legs over the edge of the bed. Her hospital gown only reached to her knees, allowing Bliss to see her new long perfectly smooth legs. Everything about her was so perfect! She walked over to the full length mirror, taking her time to soak in the new thrill of just...walking like a pretty. It all felt so natural. Once she reached the mirror, Bliss almost fainted, she was so...pretty. Tall and Slim, with the best complexion ever, no more pimples, no more frizzy hair. Her hair! It was down to her waist, and platinum blonde. How could they have turned her hair from mousy brown to platinum blonde?!? At the moment, Bliss didn't really care anyways, she was just in so much awe at her new appearance. The sixteen year old swung around and embraced Dr. Laiyte tightly.
"Thank you SO much, Dr. L. This is totally bubbly, I love my hair!"
Obviously, Dr. Laiyte was not used to having new pretties almost crush her while hugging. She put on a smile and pushed Bliss away from the hug. She gave a small 'you're welcome' and pointed towards a chair where Bliss was supposed to wait. She sat down, and crossed her legs in a very pretty-like fashion. Dr. Laiyte exited the room, returning shortly after, obviously with some news.
"Your new home will be in Komanchi Mansion, room #27, top floor, along with all other 16 year old pretties in that building"
Bliss knew that the term 27 top floor was familiar to her in some way or another, but she couldn't place her knewly french manicured finger on it. Actually, she couldn't remember much past the point of when she had met...what was that kid's name she had met a while back, he was on her floor. Well, at least...she though he was. Started with an L...or something like an L.
"Hey Dr. L, this is totally pretty-making and all, but why can't I remember when I was an ugly?"
"Oh, that's just...well, sometimes you forget things your brain tells you that you don't need to know anymore. It's probably just that your brain didn;t need you o remember your ugly days, because you're just going to fill your head with memories of your Pretty parties."

*********

Bliss was given a temporary set of pretty clothes and was sent off to Komanchi Mansion. Komanchi was so big, it had to be at least twenty stories tall. Bliss stood in front of the building for a moment or so to take in all of it's height and beauty. She would have a view all the way out to the rusty ruins! Rusty Ruins...Bliss remembered tricking hoverboards to tak her out to the rusty ruins with some other uglies. That would be fun to do. Maybe with the crims. Wow, she couldn't wait to meet the crims. A whole bunch of her friends who'd already turned pretty sent her pings that she'd totally make a bubbly crim. Bliss was so excited. She was finally /here/.
"Excuse me? Bliss? You still with us?"
"Wha? Oh, yeah, sorry. Just thinking."
"Well, anyways. This is Kale, he'll be showing you around Komanchi and to your new dorm"
Bliss hadn't even realised the fact that there was a georgeous young pretty guy standing in front of them now, with almond colored eyes and shaggy dark brown hair. Only, all of a sudden, he didn't seem /that/ great. He wasn't spectacular, only...normal, just...average. Bliss pouted. Things weren't so fabulous anymore. Well, of course they were totally bubbly and fabulous, but just not /so/ bubbly and /so/ fabulous. Kale-wa was still hot though. Bliss sighed, and gave Kale a small air hug, not touching him once, as most pretties did when meeting for the first time. Bliss didn't even know how she knew that she was supposed to hug, but it had obviously worked.
"So Dr. L, how long has she been a pretty?"
"Only a little under a day, be careful with her. Don't touch her skin."
"Bubbly, so you're a newbie...?"
"It's Bliss-la. Yep, Straight off the operation table. So I hear Komanchi is totally bubbly at parties, right?"
"Totally. You;re gonna love it here, everything is so fashion-making"
"I hope!"
Bliss followed Kale into the mansion, and found that to her surprise, the inside of Komanhci was even more charming that the outside. She continued to follow Kale-wa up the large winding staircase upstairs. She pressed the large green elevator button with the end of her nail, and told the elevator minder that she wanted the top floor. Kale-wa looked impressed with her knowledge of pretty technology. Uglies never had any of this fancy stuff. Secretly in the back of Bliss's mind she knew it was because she had seen it all been done before at the costume bashes she had crashed during her ugly days. They were the easiest to sneak into, because nobody knew who you really were.
"So Kale-wa, what was Dr. L talking about with the whole skin thing?"
"Oh. Don't touch anybody. New pretty skin has this chemical in it, and until it settles in, you can;t touch other pretty's skin. It hurts like nothing you've ever felt before. Like...really bad. I remember my first day as a pretty. Painful."
"Oh. Alright. Good thing I didn't actually hug you when we met."
"Yeah. Anyways, here's your bubbly room. Oh my gosh, we need to name your room."
"Really?"
"Yeah. My room's called Tango, yours should be called something like Trick..."
"Trick...I like it. Trick it's called then. Bubbly-making, is it not?"
"Wait until you get inside. You're gonna love it!"
Just as Bliss and Kale entered Trick, they didn't even have time to gasp in awe before a loud sound came from inside the walls, and through a speaker in the corner of her room.
Ping ping ping ping ping!
"Message from Valentino Mansion, Room #27"
Okay, so...this is Bliss's room, right? Congrats on becoming pretty. We like, have the same room number, only different mansions, isn't that totally bubbly-making?!?! Anyways, you're like...totally invited to my costume bash tonight. I hear the Crims are coming, so it's gonna be totally icy-making. Be there or be fashion-missing!
-Nell-wa"
"Looks like we're going to a party tonight!"
Bliss was a natural when it came to using her closet. It wasn;t exactly like you needed to be a rocket scientist to work it, but ti was a bit tricky. Basically, you told theroom what clothing item you wanted, punched the blue button on the left side of your wall, and that clothing item came out from the hole in your wall, in ther words, your closet.
"Great. I need to come up with a costume, and I only have 7 hours to prepare!"

Chapter Two

Chapter Two
November 1st, 2006
Ready for Paradise

Tap tap tap tap tap tap tap.
Bliss's foot struck the ground over and over as she waiting with anticipation for the ping that would soon come on her interface ring. The little message saying they would pick her up in one of their fancy hovercars to send her to the pretty-making hospital. They being some lab workers that would most likely rather be doing something 'more productive' with their time than look after little wannabe-pretty uglies. Bliss would soon be catapulted into a life of awesome-ness. She was...ready. Bliss had already packed and unpacked and repacked her things at least four times, each time making sure she was taking only the absolute necessities. She knew that most pretties recycled all their items anyways after the operation, realising that they were given more than they needed once they got to new pretty town.
Ping ping ping ping ping!
Bliss nearly jumped out of her skin. She was hoping, but hadn't expected the ping so soon. She pressed the tiny red button on her interface ring that allowed Bliss to read the message that had been sent to her seconds before.
Dear Mrs. Bliss Rayde
You have been informed that we will be coming to pick you up for your operation today. We shall be waiting outside of your dorms in two minutes. Do not be late.
Thank you,
Dr. Laiyte
Dr. Laiyte turned out to be a beautiful middle pretty dressed in a white lab coat. The lab coat made her seem a little bit intimidating, but Bliss had never been one to show much fear. Dr. Laiyte showed her to the hovercar, and half shoved, half 'showed her' into the uncomfortable seat in the back of the vehicle. The Dr. stood in front of Bliss in a sort of "aren't I better than you?" way, and started to talk to Bliss very quickly, and so Bliss could barely comprehend what was going on.
"You will be taken to the hospital soon for a few last confirming measurements. It is 11:00am right now, and your measurements are scheduled for exactly 11:25am, and should the measurements equal to what we were expecting, your operation will start at exactly 1:00pm in the day.
"Well, I guess...whatever, it's not like I actually have any say in what's going to happen anyways, right?"
"No Ms. Bliss, I guess you don't."
Bliss arrived at the hospital at exactly 11:22. She was forced to literally run to her appointment for her measurements. Bliss was forced to stand still, no moving allowed for almost an hour while the second lab Dr. measured her arms, legs, shoulder width, chest diameter, etc. etc. After coming to a conclusion that her measurements were all accurate as they had been before, Bliss was sent off to the operating room. As she was about to open the door to exit the measuring room, and she was greeted by Dr. Laiyte, funfunfun.
"I assume that all your measurements were correct?"
"Well, I just wasted an hour of my life, and yeah, they were."
"I don't appreciate your sarcasm you rebellent little Ugly. You should be thanking me, I'm about to let you be pretty, you do realise that arrangements for your operation can be cancelled at any moment, right?"
"Well then, let's go prettify me."
Bliss was led down a long dark hallway, one of the kinds of hallways that are used in those horror movies where everybody dies a horrible death, and into a room filled with surgical tools. How reassuring. Bliss shuddered, soon all of the metal kinves would be used to cut her open and rearrange her body. She had always hated knives, and now she was about to face dozens of them all at once. Her breathing sped up considerably, and Bliss tried to calm herself down. Of course, she would be asleep through the whole thing, she wouldn't feel a single cut. Dr. Laiyte, however mean she had seemed before, looked rather sympathetic towards the fifteen year old.
"Are you alright? We really do need to start soon, but I can allow you a few minutes of calm down time if you'd like"
"...no. I'll be...fine. Let's just do it."
Bliss was taking large sharp breaths in between every word. She could feel a small panic attack coming on, as they sometimes did when she was really worked up about something. Bliss had always been prone to panic attacks, even as a littlie. She could feel herself about to cry, and wondered if anybody else had this reaction to the operation like she did. The look on Dr. Laiyte's face told her they hadn't.
"Listen. I'm okay, let's just do it, I'm completely fine! Just...yeah."
Dr. Laiyte motioned for her to lay down, and Bliss followed the order. She closed her eyes, and started to control her breathing a bit better now. Everything would be fine. The bed was actually quite comfortable...yes, everything would be fine. Bliss would get to be pretty in a matter of hours now.
"Okay, so when you wake up, you'll most likely have a headache, alright? It's just a common side effect to the operation, and painkillers can be available if you need them. You can start counting back from Ten...now"
Bliss could feel the tiny poke of a needle, and started counting.
"Ten...nine...eight...sevvn...siiii..."

~O~O~O~O~O~O~O~O~O~O~O~O~O~O~O~O~O~O~O~O~O~O~O~O~O~O~O~O~O~O~O~O~O~O~O~

Chapter One
October 30th, 2179
Un-Bliss

If Bliss were a color, she'd be green. Green, the color of grass and trees. Not very nice to look at, but wuld someday grow to be a georgeous flower swaying the the sunrise before morning. Paints a nice picture, right? Well, not yet. Bliss was still green, still grass, and still ugly. However, Bliss wasn't feeling the color of grass, she was very much excited. In two days, Bliss would have her operation, and become supermodel georgeous. Come again you ask? Who on earth would be excited for an operation? Well, in the year 2179, things have changed, a lot. Technology has taken the world over, and over again. On the day of your sixteenth birthday, you recieve an extensive operation that makes you pretty. Well, more than just pretty, drop dead georgeous, actually. Party all night, drinking champagne until dawn, sleeping until 1pm, and then repeating the cycle until you reach the next phase of your life. Of course, you have that small 4 hour window of time each day before the next party starts to desperately try and get rid of your hangover from the night before. Bliss stared out into the cold night: October 30th. Today was more than just another X on the calendar, today was the first day that Bliss checked into reality. She had turned 15 exactly 363 days before, and in two days, Bliss would be thrown into a new world. A world of beautiful people, and no more ugliness.

Although, until the operation day, Bliss would be stuck in dorm number 27-A-15. 27th door down, top floor section A, with all the other 15 year old uglies. There were only three other uglies left in her age category due to their late birthdays, and soon a new age group would be flooding in from their year fourteen into their year fifteen dorms, like a little flock of sheep, frightened about entering a new grade. Not like the new dorms were much better anyways. Bliss was a little sick and tired of the same old four walls and posters messily taped up on her walls. She hadn't spent a single night in her dorm for the past month, too busy tricking night after night. Sneaking across the river separating Uglyville from New Pretty Town and crashing Pretty parties had recently become one of her favorite tricks to go out and do around the hour of midnight. Bliss was one of the more advanced tricksters, having mastered the hoverboard (Much like a skateboard, only able to climb extremely high distances in the air by using the magnetic grid set underneath all of the city), and was the kind of girl that would be expected to lead the crims once she turned pretty. The world of the crims, a world that Bliss was learning more and more about every night that she snuck across the river by herself, other uglies just slowed her down. The Crims were the pretties who acted more like Uglies than anything, tricking their interface rings, stealing hoverboards and riding out in the night when they were supposed to be partying. They were the kind of pretties that would be expected to welcome with open arms a party crashing ugly, only, they hardly ever did. People said it was something to do with the fact that the doctors messed around with people's brains when they got the operation. Apparently it made them think that they were better than the uglies. Bliss still thought it was all a load of bunk, she couldn't wait to be pretty. Ony two more days, just two more, and she would be there. There in Paradise.

~O~O~O~O~O~O~O~O~O~O~O~O~O~O~O~O~O~O~O~O~O~O~O~O~O~O~O~O~O~O~O~O~O~O~O~
